A Slow, Green Holiday
Lets face it with all the rushing, consuming, scheduling and preparing, the holidays can be down right stressful and it is nearly impossible to be mindful of what we consume. At ecoeastend.com we put the brakes on the stress and our consumption. We are making a return to those idyllic holidays of old with our focus on all things local and green.
True Luxury is taking the TIME to enjoy, taking the time to savor the moment. Maybe it is as simple as a fresh home cooked meal or the leisurely hours spent playing board games with your children.
When it comes to consuming if you slow down you can be mindful. Remember, we make BIG statements with what and where we purchase our goods. We recently spent a lovely day combing through some local thrift shops. Not only did we find some wonderful and unique gifts but our purchases went to support important local charities. We stopped in at the the following thrift shops:
The Retreat Boutique- 2044 Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton
Arf Thrift Shop- 17 Montauk Highway in Sagaponack
www.arfhamptons.org/help.ihtml
Southampton Hospital Shop - 40 W. Main St. in Southampton www.southamptonhospital.org/hospital/thrift_shop.php
We were thrilled to see that Collette's Consignment Shop made it into Hamptons Magazine's WHAT'S HOT LIST this month. Collette's is a local high-end consignment shop with locations in Southampton, East Hampton and Sag Harbor. A wonderful place to shop.
Lastly, but certainly not least, there is a store in Amagansett that ecoeastend.com would like every one of our readers to visit. It is called GONE LOCAL and it is at 199 Main Street in the center of Amagansett town. It is owned by Susan Seitz-Kulick and is filled with hundreds of locally produced products. From shoes made in Montauk to skin care made in Cutchogue. Susan makes many of the products sold in her store out of reclaimed / recycled materials. She has a beautiful line of jewelry made from her vintage marble collection and another made from beach glass found on our beaches.
She also makes childrens' party hats from old wallpaper that are just adorable. The list is too long to continue but it is a joy to search through her shop and find endless examples of what you can produce with materials that would otherwise be thrown away.
Try to slow down enough this season to get out to Amagansett and check out this shop. It may not look like the type of store you would normally enter but make the effort, talk to Susan and we guarantee you won't be disappointed.
Happy Slow and Green Holidays to all !!! Take the time to enjoy !!
